Château de Saint-Loup sur Thouet

I rented this place for my wife & teenage daughters to celebrate a 5th anniversary over a 3 night weekend. We opted to rent the entirety of the castle for privacy (and for more fun!)
Exploring the maze of giant rooms is so cool....The 120 acres are a wonderland. The adjacent village is quaint and gorgeous and has a decent grocery store for supplies.

It was a dream come true for us. We stayed in "the keep". The owners were the most delightful, accomodating and informative people. The Bosendorfer piano in the gorgeous living room was a fantastic instrument. Though an hour from main attractions, the nearby wineries and chateau visits were amazing. It was the peaceful immersion of true French culture and history we longed for.

We were fortunate to stay in the Keep (the medieval castle next to the chateau) for nearly a week and I have to say that the experience was just unbelievable! The rooms were clean and comfortable, the scenery was gorgeous, and the decorations all had an authentic feel. There was so much to see in the area and so much history to take in. The hosts were very kind and provided us with wonderful meals in the dining room of the chateau and also in the Keep. The original part of the Keep was built in the 12th century but the rooms were all updated with modern conveniences, while still leaving the medieval feel. Other parts of the Keep were built in the 14th century and additions have been made throughout even current times. Some of our other family members stayed in the Chateau so we had an opportunity to see many parts of that 17th century mansion.
This was an experience like no other.
For anyone looking for a unique get-away unlike any place you have ever stayed, I would highly recommend this place.
